Weligama is a fishing village located in South Sri Lanka. While the highlight here is Weligama Bay, a beautiful coast with excellent surf, there’s more to Weligama than the beach. Families will appreciate the town’s relaxed, laid back vibes, water sports (the area is ideal for snorkeling and diving too), family-friendly dining venues and cultural attractions. It’s also a great base for making day trips out to popular attractions Galle Fort, Mirissa Harbour, Yala National Park and more.
The best months for surfers to catch a wave at Weligama Bay is between end September till the end of May. The reef breaks here are suitable for beginners. Advanced surfers may head out to the reef point break at Midigama, a beach town located within Weligama. Away from the beach, stretch it out on the mat at drop-in yoga classes conducted at Surf & Yoga Mirissa, Greenpeace Inn and Gangarama Temple.
Soothe the aches and tension in your body with a spa ritual at venues like Cape Weligama or Quan Spa (located at Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa). The former features treatments like scrubs made from organic local herbs, essential oil massages and herbal steam treatments, while the latter features a wide-ranging array of services - from massages and body wraps, to facials, scrubs and manicures.
Weligama’s dining scene offers a variety of options to suit different tastes and moods. We’d recommend Cape Weligama for a fine dining experience; the hotel has three on-site venues, Cape Club, Ocean Terrace and Ocean Grill, and each offers a unique setting and menu. For a more laid back and fuss-free dining experience, check out casual eateries like Hangten Rooftop Restaurant, Aloha Home & Kitchen and Blue Lagoon Seafood Restaurant.
10/10We had the most amazing 3 nights. It was truly an exceptional experience. The hotel was beautiful, so peaceful and I loved how there was no restaurant so we ate breakfast outside our private hut, had lunch around the beautiful gardens. The food was completely delicious. Sandun was a particular star, he went above and beyond and always had the biggest smile on his face. He is truly a highlight from our stay. We stayed in the Muhudu Bella Hut and it was sensational. Fantastic massage as well. Beautiful views and a hotel that I will always remember.
10/10The hotel is beautiful and the view even better. Every morning you can enjoy their delicious breakfast while looking at the sea. Food is amazing - some of the best we ate in Sri Lanka. Staff are so lovely and kind - Sandun and Rex were wonderful. You can walk down to the local beach. Tuk tuks outside to take you wherever you want to go. Highly recommend, we absolutely loved it.
10/10Heavenly stay from start to finish. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The experience is very intimate. The garden is incredibly tranquil and the views are amazing. Could not recommend this hotel more. Special shout outs to Sandun who was so attentive and helpful (first class service), and also the young woman who was front of house and the hotel manager who made our stay extra special.

The staff are attentive and make you feel at home - a special mention to Rex who made the stay as great as it was!

10/10It is with great regret that we only managed to stay here for one night. We stayed in the Bella,and what treat.We had left our previous accomodation as it was not suitable and arrived here very early in the morning.No problem,we sat around the pool ,had a delicious lunch,walked on the beach and was made to feel very welcome. Once our gorgeous room was ready we were given the run down re ordering meals ,as your meals are brought to your room, and served on the lovely patio. We found the staff most obliging and friendly. Loved the decor ,the tropical garden,not to mention the lovely pool with a view over sea. Could have been happy to sit in those bean bags all day.
10/10The house and the rooms are breath taking. The location stunning. Sea front with challenging surf break for confident surfers, not so easy for casual swimmers. Lovely mature trees and well tended gardens. A really nice pool. The staff friendly and helpful, looked after us well. The food was a slight disappointment, we felt it didn't live up to the standard of the house. Everything else was exceptional. A truly memorable experience.
