We stayed at the Mandira Graig Appin Bungalow. The place is quite beautiful. The bungalow is an old tea estate bungalow built by the British. The walls are granite. It is kept in very good condition and the surrounding are is serene with a view of rolling hills covered with perfectly pruned tea plants. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. Food is great.
Nice and comfortable colonial house. Ideal for a group of friends if you can fill the house. Feels like being at home. Special mention to the chef Ravi for his delicious dinners and of course, breakfasts. Very attentive for guests with special food needs. Very friendly and always with his smile. Excellent tea served with cookies.
The service to food you get pampered up in Madira hotels with the new management is superior to what you get at an 5 star hotel suite. Each and every food we get is prepared with authentic by it's origin. The service you get here is traditional banglow servant service which is very customized to your need and with greater sincerity. Above 5 star standards, a must place to be. Also Madira banglow has stunning interior, furnishings & fine quality cutlery. This together with their service it is absolutely heavenly.
We stayed in Mandira Strathdon bungalow for 2 nights while touring Sri Lanka. Beautiful renovated old plantation bungalow. It was the staff that made this place extra special. The manager, Jaya Ram has worked there for 30 years and looked after us so well. He washed and dried our soggy clothes free of charge after arriving from the rain forest. We were the only 2 staying there and he set up a romantic meal by candlelight on the porch. Also he is a very good cook, go for his traditional Sri Lankan food. We did Adam's Peak from here and had to leave a 5am in the morning. He made us a lovely packed breakfast and lunch in little wicker baskets. We also did a lovely work around the tea plantation from the bungalow. Watch out for leaches though in the rainy season. So quaint, like travelling back to the colonial era. Just to note, they do not serve alcohol but are happy for you to bring your own.
We got married at Mandira. Hats off to Mr.Sarath for organizing the event and made it unforgettable for me and my family. Excellent food & butler service. "Bon ap·pé·tit", The best chefs are in the facilities, Surian& Ravi. We will be back on our anniversary. Recommend for everyone to enjoy the facilities of your hotel and you will definitely enjoy the facility. Thanks heaps to Sarath again and the team behind him. More than 5 Stars.
We drove from Colombo and apparently there are multiple routes. So a bad choice can get you 8 hours+ on the road. This amazing bungalow is in the middle of a lush green tea estate. I reached all tired but the chef whipped up a lipsmacking meal of local food. Everyone is very hospitable and rooms are large. You need to get your own alcohol. We took long walks in the pre charted path into the estate. Be wary of leaches here although they are very small. The Bungalow has an outdoor dining section with a great view, infact even the toilet has a great view. Make sure you try the string hoppers and prawn curry. Overall I wish I stayed longer and I am definitely going back another day.
Lovely bungalow, chef was amazing, the bungalow was spotless and immaculately presented, staff we friendly and accommodating. The guide to Adams peak was a G, gave us a little bit of history, knew the best spots, especially to see the amazing sunrise.
For those who were used to staying at the old plantation bungalows with friends and family and enjoying the the food and hospitality that was the trademark of those places in the yeas gone by, this is an ideal place to jog your memory. the property has been completely re-furbished, keeping the same look and feel of the old bungalow. 4 Comfortable rooms with an serene view out front, and enough garden space for an impromptu game of cricket - the location had many advantages. Including its proximity to Hatton and Nuwara Eliya (about an hours drive away). Ignore the cable TV, take along some books and relax. The staff are excellent and will make you feel completely at home - always going the extra distance to make your stay comfortable. For your food though, I'd recommend the Sri Lanka over the Western fare.
We stayed during a weekend at Craig Appin. Bungalow is on a awesome location with a big garden in front. Nice place for kids. You will get a star class treatment from Ravi. The food is absolutely delicious, we had 4 meals, all were super fantastic & very accommodative on food for kids. Couple of nice places to visit around. Still you won't feel like going out, as the atmosphere at bungalow is super relaxing.
