Thank you for your interest in our villas. We look forward to speaking with you!
A stunning colonial property built during the Dutch colonisation of Sri Lanka, Villa Velmarie underwent a refurbishment in 2014. While the villa now features a full range of modern amenities, it still retains its colonial charm.
Spread out across a sprawling compound, the living spaces in the villa blend in seamlessly with its surroundings, and are tastefully furnished with antiques handed down through the generations. Guests at Villa Velmarie will enjoy impeccable hospitality and excellent in-villa dining experiences featuring a wide array of cuisines.
In addition to accommodation, the daily rates for Velmarie Ayurveda Retreat includes three meals, consultation with an Ayurveda doctor, Ayurveda massages, and therapies.
Containing six double bedrooms, Villa Velmarie is ideally kitted out for housing groups of 12. All rooms offer air conditioned comfort, en suite bathrooms and modern amenities and furnishing. Three of the rooms offer views out to the pool. The villa also can be booked as a whole or on individual room basis.
A sparkling pool, flanked by swaying palms takes center stage outdoors. Recliners set along the edge of the pool invite vacationers to bask under the sun, and the spacious pool deck offers ample space for outdoor yoga sessions. Taking leisurely strolls through the well-maintained garden is a great way to unwind in the evening.
Villa Velmarie’s living spaces are spread out across a vast compound. The main living area features an expansive lounge equipped with a flat screen TV, sofas and armchairs, along with an adjoining dining area. The highlights of the property are its array of ayurveda and spa amenities; nestled away within the expansive grounds are a massage room, outdoor bath facility (for herbal or flower bath treatments), an ayurvedic herbal steam bath facility and a room for shirodhara treatments.
Board games, a DVD movie collection and baby cot are available at request, as are yoga, meditation and spa sessions. In-villa dining experiences are prepared by a chef who’s well-versed in whipping up an array of cuisines - from local Sri Lankan fare, to Western or Asian dishes.
Guests may opt for an ayurveda package. Tailored to your individual needs, the package includes a consultation with an Ayurvedic specialist, along with a treatment plan and guided yoga and meditation practices. Your treatment will include a variety of massages and therapies, such as head massages (the resident head masseur, Rohan Guruthilaka is a qualified therapist well versed in traditional and modern massage techniques), facial massages, full-body massages, foot massages, herbal steam baths, herbal inhalation, shirodhara, flower baths and nasal cleansing. Nutrition is a priority, so each and every meal is carefully planned for your body type and constitution. The villa also offer special 7, 14, 21, and 28 day packages for weight loss, relax and rejuvenate, motivation boost, anxiety, and de-stress.
Villa Velmarie is located in the coastal town of Beruwala. Guests will enjoy being within close proximity to the beach; Maggona Beach is just five minutes’ walk away, while Beruwala Beach is located within an easy drive from your villa.
Tours to attractions like Richmond Castle, Brief Garden, Galle Fort, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, Lunuganga Estate, Bentota and Kalutara Temple are easily arranged with the assistance of your villa manager.
Start off your holiday with a visit to the fortified town of Galle Fort; its charming streets are lined with striking Dutch colonial buildings and beautifully restored churches. Walking tours are a great way to explore the town, which also boasts a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and boutiques.
Culture and history buffs will appreciate visits to sites like Richmond Castle. Its immaculate architecture and extensive garden are a feast for the eyes, and a guided tour will provide illuminating insights into the sad history behind the once-splendid facade of the mansion and its owners. Brief Garden and Lunuganga Estate are worth a visit for its atmospheric setting and picture-perfect grounds, and the pristine, all-white exterior of the Kalutara Temple is a sight not to be missed.
Bentota and the Sea Turtle Farm & Hatchery at Habaraduwa are must-sees on any nature or outdoor lover’s itinerary. The former boasts an array of facilities for exciting watersports like water scooter rides, wind surfing, parasailing, water skiing, while the latter is a not-for-profit organisation that carefully carries out turtle conservation activities.
Villa Velmarie pays attention to every detail possible. The place is very clean with a majestic garden. It is a six room villa which is very private and homely. The ayurveda treatment here are second to none. Very experienced hands will give you a varity of treatments. We booked the relax and rejuvenate package. In the short time we experienced yoga, the art of mindfull breathing, peace, harmony, ayurveda therapies, great food, cooking demonstrations and a sincerely blessed experience. A little piece of heaven indeed.
I stayed at Villa Velmarie with a friend prior to a work related visit in Sri lanka and I'm very glad I chose them. If you have been to Sri Lanka you will know that apparently short road trips on Google Maps can be very long and laborious due to the lack of highways. Villa Velmarie is about an hour and a half by road from Colombo Airport and mercifully most of that is on SriLanka's one and only freeway. Might not sound important but trust me! - Villa Velamarie is a great small boutique villa and mercifully if you are over overpriced 5 star resorts, is a place to be genuinely cared for in a peaceful and nurturing environment rather than the superficial "pampering" provided by large resort spa services. Tailored ayuverdic food that actually is plentiful, delicious and healthy, comfortable airconditioned accommodation (and if you stay anywhere in asia it's nice to know that the airconditioners here are modern, effective and quiet and respond to your temperature inputs so not tooo freezing!), more traditional style ayuverdic treatments in a purpose built facility that can be as challenging as they are relaxing and daily yoga by a sensible, friendly and not too out there yogi by the beautiful pool area. Located a very short walk away from a typical small Sri Lankan town and a pretty but not swim safe beach. Villa Velmarie would be an ideal 3 or 4 day chill within a busy Sri Lankan tour schedule or a longer stand alone stay for someone (or a couple) seeking solitude and healing away from the usual traps of life.
My experience at Villa Velmarie was a fantastic one. I booked the all inclusive Ayurveda retreat. On the first day the Ayurveda specialist came up with a 7 day plan for me. In that plan he outlined a diet and massage plan for me to follow. Our mornings started with yoga and meditation followed by the Ayurveda massages. The meals were all authentic Ayurveda cuisine. We felt very energized and motivated. Highly recommended for any one looking for an energy boost and to reduce stress.
Great Villa and Ayurveda package. The team at Villa Velmarie offers a very relaxing package. I booked the seven day package and it was a treat. Stress level reduced completely. The vegetarian menu they serve is delicious. Yoga and ayurveda in the mornings, walks on the beach in the evening and great food. This place has it all.
We stayed at villa velmarie for our honey moon. We can recommend this place without any hesitation. The program was pure ectasy and we were left much lighter and relaxed after the five days. This is an ideal holiday to relax the mind and puriy the body. The yoga techniques we learnt at the villa is some thing that we will continuing at home. The luxury comfort and experience we gained will be some thing that we cherish for a long time. A very special thank you to the team who looked after our mind body and recharged our batteries.
