Gampaha is a district in the West of Sri Lanka and it is the district where your plane will land upon arrival at the island’s international airport. Gampaha is home to the capital city Colombo and the more quiet tourist town of Negombo, also known as ‘little Rome’ due to the many Roman churches and its population: the majority is Catholic. The city of Gampaha is the main gateway to get to the beautiful 128 years old Henarathgoda Botanical Gardens, the place where the first Brazilian rubber tree was planted, triggering the booming rubber industry in South East Asia.
