10/10A true tropical Haven My family rented Ginger Palm with two other families (children’s ages between 8 and 15). This was the best family holiday we’ve ever had. The villa is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach, where we were spoilt with cool beach bars nestled within a stunning and unspoilt bay. The children were well entertained with surf lessons in the morning, and then back to the villa for a healthy lunch (The menu was delicious, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating for various requests from the children for tweaks and favourites). The pool is huge and there’s a shallow area to sunbathe, read and chill-out with a cocktail. As an architect, I like to stay in places which represent aspects of the character of the country I’m visiting. Ginger palm has the perfect balance of modern interiors with authentic Sri Lankan details found on soft furnishings, to the beautiful carved wooden louvres onto the balconies. I loved the ensuites with exposed concrete surfaces throughout. At dusk nature appeared to explode from the jungle, and we were spoilt with peacocks parading around the perimeter walls and monkeys swinging from the trees in the jungle behind. The children loved the puppies that were just a few weeks old that were living in the land next door. The food is great at the Villa, however there are loads of options in/on and around the beach. We found some very cool new beach restaurants all within a 10min walk (La Playa, Smoke and Bitters). I cannot recommend Ginger Palm enough, it’s an absolute haven in an incredible bay.
