With a landscape such as the one you’ll find at Villa Indisch, you would never want to leave; the ocean with its crashing waves, a sky iridescent with the colours of the sunset, white sandy beach, and lush flora abound. The villa is family-friendly with a swing-set and slide for the kids to play on, a T-shaped 15-metre swimming pool that overlooks the splendour of the ocean, and expansive, manicured lawns.
Palm trees dance while the wind blows and you can be sure that only a few minutes here and your mind and body will thank you. A traditional pavilion with a thatched roof serves as the alfresco dining area for rustic, memorable meals and BBQ.
The terrace around the colonial building is furnished with dining chairs, wicker chairs, and comfortable seating so you can enjoy the endless views. Louvered doors lead to the living room which has been designed with vintage accents, antique pieces, and chandeliers. Furnished comfortably, the living area is another great place to kick back and relax with your friends and family.
There is a larger dining table indoors with seating for up to 10 guests and the kitchen is fully-equipped where either you can prepare what you wish or request the house chef to surprise you with local and international delicacies. Another rustic outdoor kitchen sits alongside the alfresco dining area where the chef can prepare authentic dishes steaming with local flavours in clay pots.
The staff is friendly and approachable so if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. The villa serves a mean breakfast, lunch, and dinner however, these along with additional snacks are charged separately so you can book in advance. For other amenities such as boat, car, or scooter rentals the staff can help with bookings.
The villa is essentially beachside with the sandy shores right at your doorstep so you can walk along the shore and enjoy the beautiful view. You can venture out to nearby village of Mirissa with its rustic ambiance and amazing beach where if you’re lucky you could get to see a school of dolphins. There is a sea turtle hatchery as well where you can witness something as magical as hatchlings heading to the water for the first time after hatching.
10/10It was a sincere slice of heaven. We can't wait to return. The villa was very comfortable and clean and everyone was so friendly. What a gem of a place.
10/10We loved Indisch’s setting on a sweeping curve of coastline; the ocean panorama made all the more interesting by the waves crashing onto rocks just offshore. Indisch is incredibly spacious, and with plenty of places to enjoy privacy it’s ideal for a couple of families, friends travelling together or even for big family reunions. There’s a wide veranda to the front (with sun screens that are very effective at reducing glare without blocking the garden and sea from view) where we dined most of the time or sat quietly and read. We liked that there’s a music system built into the living areas (although it doesn’t connect with an iPod), and the TV in the study is a good distraction for kids – and us, on a rainy day. Run with the efficiency of a hotel, Indisch has a big attentive staff team and an excellent chef who dazzled us with his repertoire of dishes – Sri Lankan and international. The kitchen is principally the domain of the staff but parents needing to prepare children’s or babies’ meals are welcome to use it on request. Indisch is 30 minutes’ from Galle’s dining scene, but the villa food is so good that this doesn’t matter. This slightly away-from-it-all location might be just what many people are looking for. The villa has a vintage Mercedes which can be used to take guests on nostalgic rides through the neighbourhood (recommended), and there is also a van at the villa which can be made available to guests (charges apply). We’ve stayed in lots of villas over the years, and it’s fair to say that Indisch is one of the most immaculately presented and staffed in Sri Lanka. On our recent visit, we were impressed by how well the villa has been maintained - it still looks new, and the dedicated staff team seemed to be constantly cleaning. We visited as a big group and the excellent chef managed to pull off a spectacular dinner every night – we requested Sri Lankan food most of the time, and he managed to make every meal different. The villa’s garden has matured beautifully and forms a natural screen from the beach, ensuring privacy
10/10We have been to this with a group of 10, this absolutely fabulous place cannot expect anything more than what has been offered. Staff is very good well behaved kept the place really clean and were always greeting with a smile. We had a nice time only thing is need to make sure if you are using the chef and having them cook the food by paying only groceries just check before you order any food and ask for grocery bill and tell them what exactly you want to eat else you can be in for a surprise seeing the grocery bill.
10/10I stayed at Villa Indisch in December 2014 as part of an eight-person group, and the experience was utterly terrific. The villa itself is amazing (see photos), and the beach and pool are amazing. But the real reason was the staff: these dedicated, fun, smart, detail-oriented people made our week at Villa Indisch far better than we had anticipated. First, the food: the in-house chef, Ajit, cooks up anything you'd like. His Sri Lankan food is authentic and delicious, but he's well-educated and has worked at hotels abroad, and knows how to make almost anything happen. He cooked us a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast one day, then scrambled eggs and bacon the next. Grilled lobster outside on the lawn for dinner. He whipped up homemade ice cream, and learned our favorite dishes so he could supply them regularly during the week. Every time we ate offsite, we regretted it: why didn't we just get Ajit to make us lunch? He's awesome, and his crew in the kitchen were accommodating and talented. I also can't speak highly enough of the crew in the Villa. Our stewards, Sangheet and Dedunu, tended to our every needs. Ice-cold rosé delivered poolside on a hot afternoon. Laundry whisked away and returned. Accompanied bike rides to the nearby tea plantation. And we loved that they were not wallflowers: we really got to know them, and got to have fun cultural moments, trading jokes and language tricks, seeing the personalities behind the uniforms. When they see you tipsy at night and help you to your room, and then tend to your morning-after ailments with coffee and a greasy breakfast, there's not much to hide behind. They laugh with you. You're on vacation. The rooms are impeccably clean, thoroughly swept and reset every morning when you're by the pool. There are plenty of flying and crawling critters around in the humid tropical heat, but we had zero in our bedroom. A nicely-done mosquito net around every bed helps keep the inevitable bloodsuckers at bay while you sleep. The pool is gorgeous. The beach is gorgeous. The villa decor is gorgeous. I generally tire of a place after a week, but on my eighth and final day at Villa Indisch, I wanted to stay another week. Or two. I asked the head steward, Sanjeewa, about their annual rates. In his characteristic dry humor, he responded with a wry smile, "Yes, sir, I will check with my management and inquire about a discount." I could tell a dozen stories, but I'll stop. I don't usually get this effusive in a review as it is. Villa Indisch is great for groups who want to chill by the pool. It's also well equipped for families with kids (outdoor play areas, and the staff will tend to the children all day).
10/10This place is amazing. It is beyond clean. The many staff spend all day making sure it is spotless and it truly is immaculate. The food is the best I have eaten on my trips to the area and the service is faultless. Over all one of the best places I have ever stayed.
10/10Went there with two families, excluding myself and I must say the staff are really amazing - very attention and friendly but a tad too quick in keeping away stuff at times. I would have a half drunk glass of whiskey at my table and after I come back from the ladies, it would be gone. The stay there was good, with the unfortunate issue of the daily thunderstorm but for the price we are paying, I am amazed that the internet doesn't work on the second floor. Also, it is most unfortuntate we miss the previous review but with at least two meals, there would be desserts given to us without asking if we wanted them. In the end, they charged us for desserts per pax and for other stuff like a whole bottle of sesame oil etc. They give us fruits everyday without asking if we wanted them and charge us all for the fruits though not all of us had fruits. We didn't mind paying but at least prepare us for it or give us the option of having or not having it. We were told that it is all meals inclusive but just as I expected and warned my partner when we first arrived, it was too good to be true.
