A two-storey private villa beside the ocean, Skye House is a stunning, old-timey property along the coast of Sri Lanka, for the traveler who seeks a sanctuary with a personal beach. A five-bedroom holiday home, the villa has been designed with a colonial English touch and architecture that speaks of the past. A beautiful view of the ocean will brighten up the darkest days as you observe the unceasing waves forming and crashing in front of you. Lie back beside the private pool as you enjoy the refreshing island breeze on your face and the wind in your hair.
The artistically decorated corridor of Skye House can be viewed from the five bedrooms that are spread across the two floors. Three bedrooms feature king-sized beds, one with single beds, and the fifth bedroom features bunk beds suitable for kids. The royal bedrooms are super comfortable and at the same time inviting. Canopied beds and air-conditioners along with access to the balcony or the lotus pond make them all the homelier.
Each bedroom comes with its own en-suite bathroom for ease and convenience that has been fitted with necessary amenities and done up in a weathered yellow hue. There are lavish bathtubs or walk-in showers to give guests a complete experience.
Peeking through the swaying coconut palm trees is the white sand beach and expansive blue ocean of Sri Lanka’s coastline. The stunning and mesmerizing view is almost trancelike since it will put you in a contemplative mood instantly. With lush greenery surrounding you, all your worries will fade away soon enough.
A private swimming pool lies in wait so you can dip you toes in, swim laps, or float under the tropical sun. The pool deck has several sun loungers for dozing off or sunbathing for a pleasant experience. There are plush armchairs placed facing the ocean, for a nice view as you sip your morning tea!
The villa has two storeyes and inside there is a corridor bordering a remarkable lotus pond under open skies. Upstairs you have the passageway leading to the bedrooms and from there you can enjoy a splendid view of the pond as well as the ocean. The terrace itself is flush with luscious greens for a refresher. Two sprawling living and dining areas at Skye House ensure there is enough space for everyone to have a good old time eating and making merry. The main living area is poolside with large glass windows and doors that overlook the panorama outdoors. With plush sofas and a colonial-style whitewashed roof, the living area is a relaxing space.
There are two dining areas at the villa, one beside the sitting area, poolside, and another one in the kitchen. The main dining area accommodates up to ten people for comfortable sitting and the one inside is good for eight people. The modern kitchen is whitewashed and provides all the comforts of an advanced city home.
Along with classic interiors and a naturally abundant view, Skye House also offers modern amenities including Wi-Fi, iPod dock, satellite TV, etc. The staff is kind enough to make you feel at home and at ease. They are there to ensure you settle in alright, help you with transportation, visiting places, and even meal preparation, if necessary. Many services like housekeeping and security are included in your stay, however, there are special services like in-house massages, laundry etc. that can be arranged at an additional charge.
One must not miss a trip to the famous city of Galle, where the fort has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich history. There are many shops and restaurants along the streets that you can explore to get in touch with the locals. Rent bicycles or carry forward on foot to really get to the know the towns!
The reaction of the kids on our arrival summed it up for all of us I think! Skye House was just spectacular! The house and layout was just perfect and so beautifully appointed. The kids just loved having a bunk room for themselves, though the pool, games room and beautiful grounds was all they really needed! We didn’t think it could get any better, however it was the staff who really made our stay truly amazing. Sam always produced delicious food and Daya seemed to always know when a perfectly brewed pot of tea, cup of coffee or ice cold beer was in need. Nothing was ever too much trouble - not even a hit of cricket! I would highly recommend Skye House to anyone and we look forward to returning one day. We also did a fabulous cooking class at nearby Angara Home which we all really enjoyed.
Thank you for making my first trip to Sri Lanka an amazing first few days. Such a lovely place and such friendly staff. The food was incredible (thanks Chef) and the afternoon cricket match – a highlight. Highly recommended and will come back one day.
Great week with 2 other families in April. Spoilt with good food, perfect weather and, crucially, happy kids. Super property right on the beach. Well maintained & managed. Will come back.
Hot water can be scarce if all bathrooms used at the same time. Sea can be rough out of season. Some road noise. Children need to be supervised on playground and in pool/on beach. Girls should not walk on beach alone. There is an interior pond with no fence. This is THE beach close to Galle. Sea swimming is seasonally safe. Good and experienced staff and chef. Professionally managed by EVM. Playground with swings. Close to Galle Fort, shops, restaurants. Large pool. 8 sun loungers. South facing.
