Literally translated into ‘Sandy Village’, Weligama is located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka and offers travellers a respite from busy city lives with its fishing town meets resort living kind of lifestyle. Sihinaya Villa is located minutes away from the beach where guests can enjoy the one of the best surf breaks in the world. The villa itself is, in fact, a 100-year old building turned into a holiday home with all its original elements restored with care. From the red-shingled roof to the whitewashed façade, the villa is perfect for a summer getaway with loved ones!
Sihinaya Villa hosts four, air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms for a comfortable stay. The master bedroom and the rest are furnished with a mix of four-poster beds and king-sized beds. The master suite even has its own sitting area for relaxation. Done up with rustic interiors, yellow-washed off walls, and antique furniture, the bedrooms promise a warm and homely ambiance.
Two of the bedrooms are like a family suite as they are interconnected and share a bathroom. The master bathroom is equipped with a freestanding bathtub, and the other two bathrooms are equipped with open-air showers for a truly tropical experience.
Dutch-inspired architecture coupled with the natural beauty of Sri Lanka form the basis of this gorgeous property. White columns that hold the fort, outdoor seating with recliner chairs, and a luscious, verdant garden outdoors all make for a luxurious way to spend your time. There is even a private swimming pool outdoors, bordered by tropical flora that only adds to the charming atmosphere replete with pleasant sounds and a refreshing fragrance. Sun chairs have been placed beside the pool, to ensure you can relax after a swim!
When the lights come on in the beautiful garden, guests can relax on the chairs found on the porch while enjoying the soothing view. Assuring you of a good time, Sihinaya Villa provides and celebrates open-plan living with a living and dining area that opens out to the garden directly. Cooled with the help of ceiling fans as well as the fresh breeze from outdoors, the living area is a comfortable place for everyone to relax in. There is a vibrant sofa in the corner decorated with locally-sewn cushions. There is local artwork on the walls and a TV for your entertainment.
A dining table that is has been handmade for the villa with reclaimed wood, sets the mood for a hearty feast that is prepared by the villa chef. The dining table can seat up to 10 guests without any trouble. An open-plan kitchen is well-equipped and ready for use complete with a host of amenities for guests.
With your comfort as priority, the villa staff comprises a villa manager, chef, steward, and housekeeper, all working their hardest to ensure you have a good time. They are happy to arrange for anything you wish such as visit to batik factory, turtle farms, temples, wildlife safaris, whale watching, etc. They do not reside on site, however there is security at night should you need anything.
Only at a two-minutes’ walk is a secluded beach, almost giving you a private beach vibe as not many frequent this part of the land. Weligama is known for its surf breaks and diving spots, perfect for the adventurer looking to spend most of their time getting acquainted with the water! A five-minute ride on a local tuk-tuk will easily get you to the main beaches as well as the centre of town.
10/10The decoration and attention to detail, the facilities, the staff, the food, the location (5 mins walk from the beach, 5 mins tuk-tuk ride to Weligama town). Just wow. The review about feeling like a millionaire sums it up. Relaxing atmosphere, so close to nature (monkeys and iguanas living next door) tiny fly eating geckos and regular bird and chipmonk visitors. The excursions were fab, releasing 2 day old turtles into the sea, seeing whales and dolphins and the elephant safari, out of this world. The food amazing!! Recommend the tuna (to die for) and red snapper. They even catered for our fussy children. The staff were so conscious and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The only negative... going home. I wish it was the hotel California instead.
10/10Lovely villa the photos don’t do it justice. The best thing though is the staff nothing is too much trouble and they are all so friendly. The area is lovely and we all enjoyed the local restaurants. Whale watching is a must as is the turtle farm. Supper on the beach at Mirissa is unbeatable. Our word for the week.... amazing!
10/10Spent the first week of a 3 week tour of SR with the family (3 kids aged 16, 14 & 12). From the moment we entered through the big gates to the time we said our sad goodbyes to the lovely staff we absolutely loved it here. The villa is really well laid out and thought through - congratulations to the owner! We've never had staff before, but it's certainly the way to go :-) especially when they are as nice/kind/thoughtful as the team here. A big thank you for looking after us so well!
