Imagine living in a former palatial home that belonged to the Chief Minister of the Kandyan Kingdom! The Kandy House is a restored and renovated manor house concept villa with nine bedrooms, serene surroundings and lush gardens that abound. Located near the popular city of Kandy, the villa has been designed to preserve its original state and heritage to offer accommodation that is luxurious, one of a kind and a memorable experience for family and friends. Bright colours coupled with muted interiors combine to form the restful oasis amidst the tea plantations and verdant landscape around Kandy.
Old-fashioned and charming design, luxurious ensuites and a combination of amenities make the nine bedrooms at The Kandy House idyllic and comfortable. Named after Sri Lankan butterflies, the bedrooms are called Red Spot Duke, Indian Admiral and Sunbeam, to name a few. They are designed for privacy, relaxation and luxury living with four-poster king-sized beds, plush twin beds for kids or cosy double beds for couples. The use of local fabrics, solid hand-crafted wood and muted interiors create an old-world charm.
Some bedrooms lead to an outdoor veranda for more private lounging complete with a hammock and antique furniture. Ensuites with showers and/or bathtubs accompany each bedroom. If you are a family with kids, you can opt for interconnected rooms as well.
An infinity swimming pool offers sprawling views of rice paddies glistening under the sun while you have the verdure of the tropical gardens to keep you company. Enjoy a hearty breakfast in the garden under the clear skies and relish evening cocktails during the golden hour. Undisturbed surroundings allow you to unwind without a worry as The Kandy House is wholly private, thus, perfect as a tropical retreat with loved ones. There are sunbeds, sofas, alfresco lounge and luxurious amenities for some outdoor fun with the local fauna.
The Kandy House gives you the impression of a private bungalow with classic, washed-out red shingled roof and whitewashed walls surrounded by gardens. A family house perfect for idling away with near and dear ones on the comfortable chairs placed on the veranda or a more intimate time indoors. The interiors are defined by the rich history of the place with bright furniture, local fabrics, colonial-inspired décor and elegant wall tapestries. There is ample seating around the house including the veranda, terrace upstairs and the living areas.
It is a family-friendly house since the kids can run around safely in the garden while you relax with a cup of tea. Dining is an impressive affair with a whole spread of local Sri Lankan fare or international European fusion food served fresh and hot. Indoor or outdoor dining is completely up to the guests depending on your mood. Outdoors is just as romantic with twinkling lights overhead, starry-night skies and the sweet-smelling fresh air that accompanies the experience.
