We&#8217;ve put together a summary of all the need to know travel options in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/nano.cab\/\">Taxi<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>You can find taxi\u2019s everywhere in Colombo and they can be a good option to get from the airport into the city, but if you\u2019re traveling outside Colombo taxi\u2019s can be a rare and expensive option.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"http:\/\/walkinlanka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NanoCab-in-Sri-Lanka.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/cities\/colombo\/\">Uber<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Uber launched in Sri Lanka a few months ago and if you have the app you should be able to find a taxi in Colombo<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pickme.lk\/\">Pickme<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 the Sri Lankan adaptation of uber which not only has a collection of taxi\u2019s but also tuk tuk\u2019s that are in and around Colombo<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.2588588.com\/\"><strong>Kangaroo cabs<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 one of the oldest cab services in Colombo Kangaroo has its only app but if you don\u2019t have internet service, you can call them at +9411588588<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Tuk tuk<\/h4>\n<p>Tuk tuk\u2019s are all over the country. Even in the most remote villages in Sri Lanka there will be someone who has a tuk tuk.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re in Colombo, you will find that tuk tuk\u2019s have meter\u2019s (as of April 2016 \u2013 Rs. 50 for the first kilometer and Rs.30 for each kilometer after). Make sure you check whether the meter works before you get in!<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"http:\/\/www.jetwingeternalearthprogramme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/021.jpg\" height=\"300\" width=\"900\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tuk Tuk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Outside of Colombo, you can still take a tuk tuk but be warned that they will charge tourists about double the usual price. So don\u2019t forget to haggle and agree on the price before you get into the tuk tuk.<\/p>\n<p>By chance if you are well outside of the city and find a really friendly tuk tuk driver, they might even teach you how to drive a tuk tuk (but careful to find a place where there aren\u2019t many people or vehicles).<\/p>\n<h4>Scooter<\/h4>\n<p>In the beach towns, the best way to get around from place to place is to hire a scooter. It is best to bring your international driving license along with you when you come. You will have to give a small deposit and then rent the scooter per day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-layzr=\"http:\/\/archives.dailynews.lk\/2012\/10\/03\/z_p06-Scooters-02.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Bicycle<\/h4>\n<p>The places where you will rent the scooters will also be able to rent you bicycles and sometimes your hotel or guest house will be able to rent bicycles as well. Be mindful of the heat and humidity and be ready to sweat. And most importantly, be careful when going on the main roads. Drivers in Sri Lanka are known to be reckless and road rules are not really followed.
